You're right. A brace may grab an existing isolated staff as the staff is moved. A possible workaround until it's fixed is:

1) Insert another independent staff.
2) Copy from the staff in the brace to the new staff.
3) Delete the staff from the brace.

Leo, When you add a single staff within, or close to, an existing brace, Musette automatically adds that staff to the existing brace. For now, if you want to use much of one file in another file, it's usually simpler to "save as" the new file, then delete the parts you don't want rather than doing extensive copying between files.

I'm glad you like Musette. As you noticed, playback doesn't repeat at repeat bars. Playback is intended mostly for checking notes. You found a reasonable solution by copying and pasting repeated measures.

Musette does NOT save in Finale format. Musette uses a file type of ".mus" which some other programs also use, but the files are NOT interchangeable. For now, you can improvise a time signature with text. Select the musettemusic font, size 18pt and use numbers 1-9.

After placing the title using Courier 20pt, use "setup" again to change the font and size to whatever you want next. Use can highlight the title text and use "Setup/Properties" to just change the highlighted text.
