In Windows, right-click the speaker icon on the right side of Window's taskbar at the bottom of the screen. Select "Volume Mixer" and adjust the Volume Mixer window so you can see all the volume sliders. Check the "speaker" volume setting, usually the first volume slider on the left. The volume slider at the bottom of the Musette window will only go as high as Window's master speaker volume. With the Volume Mixer open, move the Musette volume slider and watch what happens in the Volume Mixer.

Is the volume also low when you download and play a midi file, such as http://musettemusic.com/antmarch.mid ?

If you still have a problem, in Musette click menu "Help/Help forum". Select and copy the information about your computer's Windows and MIDI setup and paste into your next post. It should look something like the attached image. Thanks.

I did a test on my computer running windows 7 using the setup shown in the attached image. I loaded example file AntMarch.mus in Musette and antmarch.mid in Windows Media Player. Using Windows Volume Mixer, I set both volumes to 50% and alternated playing the Musette and midi file. With this setup, volume of both Musette and Windows Media Player sounded the same to me. Are you using the same setup when you hear the 25% difference?

using win 7, played your midi file, i made no changes to vol. if i set my vol to 50% i can hear near zero on musette ... 25% was a subjective evaluation, the midi file 'seemed' louder. when i use win 7 media player i hear selections fine but i always use 100% vol.

If you set the volume to 100% using Windows Volume Mixer, is the volume acceptable for both Musette and midi files played with Media Player?
