I find it very difficult to group notes into chords, and there is nothing in the Help section about this. Editing grouped notes is also very difficult. Have I missed something?
From the notes toolbar, select the chord tool (far right, disabled in the free version). Click on the topmost note, and drag down through the notes you want in the chord. Once notes are grouped in a chord, repositioning an individual note requires selecting a note tool from the toolbar. With the chord tool selected, you'll select and move an entire chord.
If you're having trouble selecting among several closely spaced items, it helps to spread them out, make your changes and move them together again.
